The last Differential Picks column named three players, and two of them did what was asked. Thierno Barry scored the only goal against Ipswich and scored again at Hull. Jayden Bogle’s Leeds kept a clean sheet against Crystal Palace, which is the whole job description for a defender priced at 4.5m. Tino Livramento’s Newcastle won at home to Hull but conceded. This week the list is a defender and two midfielders, each owned by fewer than one in ten managers, each at home, and each with a reason beyond the price tag.
A differential is a good player the crowd hasn’t noticed yet. A bad player the crowd has avoided is just a bad player.

Luka Vuskovic (Brighton, home vs Crystal Palace)
No player owned by fewer than 10 percent of managers has better form than Vuskovic, at 7.3. The Brighton defender has returned 6, 8 and 8 points in his last three gameweeks, with four clean sheets and a goal this season, and he costs 5.0m with ownership under 5 percent. Brighton lead the league for goals scored and clean sheets, and they beat Sunderland 2-0 on Saturday without much fuss. Crystal Palace arrive having conceded 12 goals in six matches, and while they scored three against Nottingham Forest, they travel to the league leaders in clean sheets. A nailed centre back at a club that keeps clean sheets and scores freely is an unusually cheap way to buy both.
The caveat is the calendar. Brighton’s next two matches are away at Liverpool and away at Manchester City, so this is a one-week hold, perhaps two, not a season-long investment.
Marcus Tavernier (Bournemouth, home vs Sunderland)
Tavernier has three league goals at 6.1m and ownership of about 7 percent, and he has slipped under the radar while Bournemouth lost their way. The team’s results are the reason for the discount: no wins in six, 13 goals conceded, and a 5-1 defeat at Chelsea on Saturday. That is also why he is a differential. Sunderland come to the Vitality Stadium in 17th place with four points, having conceded 12 and lost 0-2 at home to Brighton. Bournemouth’s attack has still scored in most of their matches, and Tavernier is the midfielder doing a good share of it. A struggling team playing a worse one at home is a decent time to be early.
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall (Everton, home vs Chelsea)
Dewsbury-Hall scored in Everton’s 2-2 draw at Hull and posted a 13-point gameweek, which pushed him to 33 points at 6.6m and ownership of around 5.6 percent. Everton are unbeaten, with two wins and four draws, and Chelsea have conceded 13 goals in six matches, so the visitors will give his team chances. Barry scored in the same match, which is a useful sign that Everton’s attack has more than one working part.
One haul is not a trend, and a 13-pointer is an outlier by definition. The early 12:30 BST kick-off also means no other information is available before you commit.
The Differentials
1. Luka Vuskovic (£5.0m), Brighton, home vs Crystal Palace
2. Marcus Tavernier (£6.1m), Bournemouth, home vs Sunderland
3. Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall (£6.6m), Everton, home vs Chelsea
Best fixture: Vuskovic, a clean-sheet machine against a Palace defence that has leaked 12 in six
Riskiest: Dewsbury-Hall, one 13-point haul is an outlier, and Chelsea score as freely as they concede
None of these are rebuilds. They are bench or last-slot punts that cost little and pay well if the crowd is late. Ownership moves quickly in the days before a deadline, so check the numbers again before committing. Deadline is 11:00 BST on Saturday, 17 October, ninety minutes before Everton host Chelsea.
