GW4 Differential Picks: Three Defenders the Ownership Numbers Haven’t Caught

The template picks get covered everywhere. What actually moves a mini-league table is finding the players still sitting under 10% ownership with a genuine route to points this week. Three names fit that bill for Gameweek 4, all of them defenders with an attacking angle the ownership numbers haven’t caught up to yet.

Low ownership on its own means nothing. A differential needs a fixture, a role, and minutes, in that order.

Tyrick Mitchell (Crystal Palace, home vs Ipswich Town)

Mitchell scored twice from the left wing-back slot in Palace’s comeback win at Fulham, the kind of attacking output that usually belongs to a much more expensive shirt. Ipswich arrive at Selhurst Park still searching for their first win of the season and have already shipped goals for fun on the road. Mitchell offers the full range: clean sheet potential in a favourable home fixture, attacking returns from an advanced wing-back role, and the defensive-contribution floor that comes with playing in a back three. Ownership hasn’t moved much yet, which is the whole point.

Luka Vušković (Brighton, away at Coventry City)

Brighton’s club-record summer arrival headed in his first English goal from a corner to rescue a point against Leeds, and he’s started every match since walking in the door. Coventry still haven’t scored a Premier League goal three matches into their return to the top flight, which makes this about as favourable a fixture as a defender gets: a clean sheet is well within reach, and Vušković has already shown he’s a genuine threat at the opposite end from set pieces. Too new to the league to have built up template ownership, which is exactly the gap this fixture is built to exploit.

Riccardo Calafiori (Arsenal, away at Sunderland)

Calafiori had a goal chalked off for offside against Chelsea and continues to push forward from left back for a team that has scored in every match this season. Arsenal are heavy favourites at Sunderland, and an attacking full back on a defence that’s conceded once in three games offers the same clean-sheet floor as Gabriel or Saliba at a fraction of the ownership, with considerably more attacking upside attached. The whole Arsenal defence is nailed and underpriced relative to the team’s fixture list, and Calafiori is the one of the group still flying under the radar.
