GW3 Captain Recommendations: Haaland’s Triple Captain Window
Gameweek 2 did what early gameweeks do: hand out a few false signals and one genuine trend. Erling Haaland scored twice at Selhurst Park and picked up 13 points. Bruno Fernandes scored a hat-trick plus an assist against Ipswich for 23. Cole Palmer looked sharp under Xabi Alonso. None of that will repeat exactly, but the Gameweek 3 fixture list rewards exactly one of those three.
Fixture, form, and underlying data rarely point the same direction this cleanly. When they do, the armband call isn’t close.

The Top Pick: Erling Haaland
City host a Coventry side without a point or a goal after two matches. Haaland has played every minute so far, leads the league for shots in the box, and has 120 points across 17 home appearances at the Etihad in his Guardiola career, at 7.4 points per match. This is not a week for cleverness.
Triple Captain Watch
Projections put Haaland at 7.0 points against Coventry before multiplication, which becomes 21 with the chip applied. More than 83,000 managers already spent their Triple Captain on his Gameweek 2 haul against Crystal Palace, and this fixture is arguably better. The one caveat is squad rotation risk from City’s midweek schedule, but Saturday’s match sits at the front of a clean run. The alternative save point is Gameweek 16, at home to Hull, which is a fixture on paper, not a guarantee.
If the chip is sitting unused, this is closer to the ceiling than most Gameweek 3 decisions get.
The Next-Best Case: Alexander Isak
Liverpool are among the week’s biggest favourites, and Ipswich have already conceded five at Old Trafford this season. The underlying numbers are shakier than the odds suggest, which is the honest caveat here, but the fixture carries him regardless.
Hold, Don’t Chase: Bruno Fernandes
Fresh off 23 points, but Everton is a materially tougher away day than Ipswich was at home. Fine as a hold, harder to justify as a captain swing this week.
Fade This Week: Cole Palmer
Palmer’s underlying form is real, but Arsenal’s defence has conceded just 0.54 expected goals across two matches, the tightest mark in the league. Save the armband conversation for Chelsea’s home date with Hull in Gameweek 4.
