Gameweek 2 Injury Updates: Who is Actually Missing
Every club has a physio room story two weeks into a season, and Gameweek 2 is no exception. Here’s what’s confirmed across the sides that matter most for FPL squads this week, so you’re not caught out by a teamsheet you didn’t see coming.
A doubt tag means nothing until the teamsheet lands. Plan around the confirmed absences, not the maybes.
Arsenal
Jurrien Timber (groin) and William Saliba (back) remain out, with Saliba expected to be sidelined for a few months rather than weeks. Ben White has taken the right-back slot in Timber’s absence and made it his own, assist included. No fresh concerns beyond those two.
Manchester United
Manuel Ugarte (knee) is out long term. Matthijs de Ligt (back) has returned to training but isn’t ready for a playing comeback, and Benjamin Sesko (calf) is in a similar spot, both closer to involvement than they were a fortnight ago but not yet match-ready. None of the three affect the attacking picks who matter for Ipswich’s visit.
Liverpool
Long-term absentees Hugo Ekitike (Achilles), Conor Bradley (knee) and Giovanni Leoni (knee) remain unavailable, and Joe Gomez (muscle) is also sidelined. Curtis Jones has left for Inter Milan, which is a squad-depth note rather than an injury one, but it thins the midfield options behind Liverpool’s regular starters.
Chelsea
Wesley Fofana is suspended for the first two gameweeks of the season following a red card at the end of last season, which rules him out of the visit of Brighton. Danny Welbeck was left out of the final pre-season fixture with what the club called a small issue but is expected to be fit and is already back training individually.
Tottenham
James Maddison has picked up a fresh shoulder issue and Mohammed Kudus isn’t yet ready to feature. Xavi Simons, Dejan Kulusevski and Wilson Odobert all remain out with knee injuries. There’s better news further back: Pedro Porro and Micky van de Ven, both easing back from injury, featured off the bench in a midweek cup tie and look on course to return to league duty shortly.
Nottingham Forest
Christian Norgaard and Tim Iroegbunam both missed the Gameweek 1 defeat to Leeds with groin strains, and Forest will need at least one of them back to stiffen a midfield that’s about to face Liverpool at Anfield without much room for error.
Confirmed Out for GW2
Arsenal: Timber, Saliba
Man Utd: Ugarte (de Ligt and Sesko not yet ready)
Liverpool: Ekitike, Bradley, Leoni, Gomez
Chelsea: Fofana (suspended)
Tottenham: Maddison, Kudus, Simons, Kulusevski, Odobert
Nottingham Forest: Norgaard and Iroegbunam, both doubtful
Check the teamsheets an hour before kickoff regardless. Doubts resolve late, and a confirmed XI beats a prediction every time.
