United’s Bounce-Back Fixture

Losing 0-2 at Hull was as bad an opener as Manchester United could have written for themselves, but the response fixture is about as gentle as it gets: Ipswich Town at Old Trafford, with home advantage and the league’s best clean sheet odds this week. On paper Arsenal are the away team, but Villa’s defensive numbers make this look more like a home fixture for the champions than the fixture list suggests. Worth remembering for captaincy and clean sheet purposes alike: the venue matters less than the state of the side conceding the goals.

Brighton Arrive at Chelsea in the Best Form in the League

This is the fixture that looks softer than it actually is. Brighton put four past Villa without conceding, the only clean sheet recorded anywhere in Gameweek 1, and they travel to Stamford Bridge full of confidence rather than as a routine home banker for Chelsea. Anyone building a Chelsea attacker into this week’s XI on the assumption of an easy afternoon should adjust that assumption before the teams are named.

Two Gameweeks Ahead: The Fixtures Worth Planning For

Erling Haaland faces all three promoted sides at home before the Gameweek 19 deadline, starting with Coventry City in Gameweek 3, a fixture worth building squad and chip plans around now rather than later. Chelsea’s forwards also have a date worth circling: Hull City visit Stamford Bridge in Gameweek 4, projected as the biggest goal-scoring fixture anywhere in the league until Gameweek 16. Fixture planning rewards managers who look two or three weeks past the deadline in front of them, not just the one.
