One gameweek of data is enough to spot a few genuine signals, and also enough to talk half the game into a knee-jerk transfer they’ll regret by October. Here’s where the smart money is actually moving this week, and where it’s chasing last week’s headline instead.

Buying a player for what he did last week is how you end up selling him for what he does next week.

The Most-Bought Player in the Game

Maxim De Cuyper leads the transfer charts with close to 250,000 managers already bringing him in, backed by the best expected points total of any player in the league from Gameweek 1. The fixture is tougher this week, away at Chelsea rather than a home date, but the role behind the numbers, an advanced left-sided one rather than a conventional full-back’s brief, looks built to last beyond one good performance.

The Budget Bandwagon: Sangare

Brentford’s new midfielder has already picked up close to 200,000 new owners after a haul on debut against Tottenham, and he’s the clear budget favourite showing up across the most popular transfer combinations in the game. At his price point, he’s an easy way to free up funds elsewhere in the squad without giving up on returns.

Up front, Watkins to Joao Pedro and Gyokeres to Joao Pedro are the two most common forward swaps, while Isak to Haaland is a notable premium switch after Isak lost his side’s penalty duty. In midfield, Dominik Szoboszlai and Cody Gakpo are the two most-targeted names, often funded by selling Pascal Gross, Enzo Le Fee, Florian Wirtz or Morgan Gibbs-White.
