GW7 Injury Updates: Liverpool’s Forwards Wait, Arsenal Lose Two More

Liverpool arrive at Brentford without Ryan Gravenberch, who was sent off against Manchester City, and with Alexander Isak, Cody Gakpo and Dominik Szoboszlai all still waiting to learn whether they will be fit. Arsenal lost Piero Hincapie and Martin Zubimendi to ankle injuries in the training session after the Leeds game. Manchester City, by contrast, have a clean bill of health and a returning Phil Foden. Every status below was checked against Wednesday’s official FPL flags and this week’s press conferences, and anything Gameweek 6 disproved has been removed.

When a manager says it is too early to say, that is not an answer. It is a reason to wait for Friday.

Liverpool: Isak, Gakpo and Szoboszlai Wait, Gravenberch Is Banned

The three were absent from the squad for the 3-0 defeat to City, and none of them has trained with the group. Andoni Iraola said on Tuesday that they were not far away. On Thursday he said it was too early to know about Saturday. The official game rates Isak (thigh) and Gakpo (ankle) at 0 percent with no return date, and Szoboszlai (hamstring) at 75 percent, although one report puts his return at the end of October. Gravenberch is suspended after a second yellow card at the Etihad. Long-term, Hugo Ekitike (calf) is not expected until December and Conor Bradley (knee) until the end of November.

The numbers explain the stakes. Szoboszlai is owned by more than a quarter of managers at 6.9m, Isak by roughly one in seven at 9.0m, and Gakpo by about 8 percent at 7.1m. Szoboszlai owners can hold until Friday’s press conference. Isak and Gakpo owners should plan as if both are out for Brentford.

Arsenal: Hincapie and Tzolis Out, Zubimendi Close

Hincapie is expected to miss around three weeks. Christos Tzolis, hurt on international duty with Greece, is out with a hamstring injury and is listed as returning around 1 November. Zubimendi missed Tuesday’s game against Lille but could return at Nottingham Forest on Sunday. None of this touches Saka, who carries no flag, but the defensive depth matters for clean sheets at a ground where Arsenal will be favourites.

OUT OR SUSPENDED THIS WEEK

Liverpool: Isak (thigh), Gakpo (ankle), Gravenberch (suspended), Ekitike (calf), Bradley (knee)

Arsenal: Hincapie (about three weeks), Tzolis (hamstring)

Aston Villa: Ruggeri (hamstring, back after the November internationals), Onana (knee), Maatsen (ankle), Cisse (groin)

Bournemouth: Kroupi (foot), Scott (tendon), Milosavljevic (knee), Araujo (thigh)

Brighton: Struijk (suspended), Wieffer (knee), Minteh, Mitoma, Tzimas, Ferguson

Newcastle United: Elanga, Ramsey

Sunderland: Ballard (hamstring), Mundle (knee)

Crystal Palace: Mateta

Tottenham: Porro (hamstring)

Doubts Worth Watching

Several flags sit at 75 percent on the official game. Reece James (Chelsea) is the one with the tightest deadline, because Chelsea play at Everton at 12:30 BST, and Friday’s press conference is the last news you will get. Moises Caicedo is back in the squad. Kevin Schade (Brentford, shoulder), Luke Shaw (Manchester United) and Van Ewijk (Coventry, hamstring) carry the same flag, and Schade is owned by about 15 percent of managers at 6.2m. Everton’s Mykolenko is rated at 50 percent.

Two cases are muddier. Brian Brobbey (Sunderland) was rated at 0 percent in the official data as of Monday, but Regis Le Bris’s Wednesday press conference had him travelling with the squad, so check Friday’s news before treating either report as final. And Brighton’s Fabian Hurzeler has reportedly signalled rotation with a European fixture in the schedule, which is a fair reason to wait for the teamsheet on anyone you are planning to buy from that squad, Vuskovic and De Cuyper included.

Good News: Returns and Near-Returns

Foden’s three-match ban ended with the Liverpool game, so he is eligible for Ipswich, though he started Wednesday’s Champions League tie against PSG on the bench. Manchester City report no injuries. Bournemouth have Justin Kluivert and Amine Adli back in the squad after injuries, ready for minutes rather than a full match, ahead of Sunday’s game with Sunderland. Kroupi is stepping up his recovery without a firm date. Aston Villa’s Leon Goretzka is in the squad, Brighton’s Jack Hinshelwood is expected to be available and Mats Wieffer is close, though not yet back.

What To Actually Do

Liverpool: treat Isak and Gakpo as out for Brentford, and hold Szoboszlai only until Friday’s press conference

Chelsea: check Reece James on Friday, since the 12:30 BST kick-off leaves no time afterwards

Brentford: Schade owners should check Friday’s team news before the deadline

Brighton: confirm the line-up before buying Vuskovic or De Cuyper, given the rotation hint

Phil Foden: eligible again, but a bench start against PSG is not a case for buying him

Team news keeps moving until the 11:00 BST deadline on Saturday, 17 October. Friday’s press conferences are the last word on most of the 75 percent flags above, so check back before locking in any transfer built around a fitness call.
