Buy: The player everyone’s already buying (and why you probably should too)

There’s a certain indignity in admitting the crowd was right. But sometimes the crowd is right. The counterargument is that everyone owns him, so the upside is limited. That’s technically true and also completely the wrong way to think about it. Not owning a player who scores 15 points on a Tuesday is how you lose mini-leagues in February.

Hold: The premium you’re itching to sell

Haaland blanked three gameweeks in a row at some point this season and half the FPL community sold him. Then he scored in five straight. Selling Haaland is rarely a tactical masterstroke. It’s usually boredom. Impatience. The desire to feel clever in a game that punishes cleverness. Same logic applies to any premium with a good run of fixtures coming up. The time to sell is before a rough patch, not during one, and definitely not after three blanks that are already in the past.

Sell: The injury you’re pretending isn’t serious

FPL doesn’t reward constant motion — it rewards patience with elite assets. But it absolutely punishes holding a long-term absentee. The broader principle

The FPL champion this season was aggressive with transfers early on, chasing price rises to build squad value, then patient in the second half — rolling his free transfer in nine of the final 17 gameweeks rather than moving for the sake of moving. Two transfers for a marginal upgrade is almost never worth the hit.
